    This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of speaking, reading and writing the Spanish language. Although grammar and vocabulary are taught, the emphasis is on oral communication. Students converse about daily life in the United States while learning about the diverse cultures of the Hispanic world. Sample themes include personal health, the family, service occupations, restaurant situations, business and travel related experiences as well as basic vocabulary and skills necessary to express needs, descriptions and appropriate social and cultural practices.

    College-Ruled Lined Paper 

    Pens/Pencils 

    Dividers for the binder - 5 or more

    Grading Categories:

    50% Major Assessments (summative assessments such as speaking/vocabulary/grammar.)

    30% Minor Assessments (formative assessments such as quizzes.)

    20% Classwork/Homework (including class participation.)

    6. Use food and restaurant vocabulary to talk about what you like and what restaurants you like.

    7. Use vocabulary in order to read and interpret the following short stories and to compare/contrast the United States with the Hispanic World.

    1. Identify vocabulary to talk about your family.

    2. Identify vocabulary associated with vacations and camping trips.

    3. Describe the weather.

    4. Identify vocabulary associated with nature.

    5. Use vocabulary to read and interpret poetry: Viento, Agua, Piedra

    Lección #2

    1. Identify vocabulary associated with activities on the beach.

    2. Identify vocabulary and use cognates, predictions and comparisons to listen and interpret.

    3. Identify vocabulary, use context clues and cognates to read and interpret literature.
